Full Moon Atlas: Sector B-3
Northern Mare Imbrium
With Crater Plato at its crown in the band
of mountains and small craters that divides it from Mare
Frigoris (across the top of the photograph), Mare Imbrium's
northern section includes the Montes Teneriffe (south of
Plato) and the troika of craters surrounding Sinus Lunicus
— Archimedes, Autolycus and Aristillus
(lower right) — where Russia's unmanned Luna 2 became the
first craft from Earth to reach the Moon's surface (1959).
