Southern Mare Imbrium
Highlighted by the rays of Crater
Copernicus — the light-colored streaks in the lower part of
the photograph, created by material scattered when the meteor that
formed Copernicus impacted the Moon — this sector includes much of
Mare Imbrium's southern section, as well as the eastern
edge of Oceanus Procellarum (in the shadows on the left
side of the photo).
