Clavius-Maginus/
Lunar South Pole
The dense crater field leading toward the Moon's
south pole features the vast Clavius walled plain (225 kilometers
in diameter), visible near the upper left corner of the
photograph, and a cluster of large craters which includes Moretus
(114 km), Curtius (95 km), Gruemberger (94 km), Short (71 km) and
Cysatus (49 km), visible in the lower center portion of the photo.
The light-colored rays appearing in the upper left corner
emanate from Crater Tycho.
